Disengagement and Physical Intervention - 3 Day Course

About the Course

This 3 day course provides not only approved Breakaway and Disengagement techniques it also equips you with the Non-Restrictive and Restrictive Physical Intervention skills and techniques required to ensure the safety of all involved when service users become physically aggressive and intervention is required  


 

 The topics covered in this course include:


Theory 


  • The Law in Relation to Use of Force

This covers Law and Legislation governing Physical Intervention and Use of Force in the Workplace  


  • Anxiety Vs Performance

This short lecture encompasses how science and psychology affect your performance and examines the relationship between motor learning and performance.

  • Understanding the Risk of Positional Asphyxia

Positional Asphyxia is a real and known risk when it comes to Physical Intervention. This topic equips learners with an understanding of Positional Asphyxia and how to manage it during a restraint.


  • How Manual Handling Applies to Restraint


Physical Techniques

  • Disengagement and Simple Breakaways

Learners are instructed in and practice Low Level increasing to Higher Level Breakaway and Disengagement Techniques

  • Non-Restrictive Physical Restraint

Learners are instructed in and practice approved Non-Restrictive Physical Intervention techniques


  • Higher Level Physical Restraint

Learners are instructed in and practice Higher Level Physical Restraint techniques


  • Dynamic Scenario Based Training

Learners are provided a setting to enable them to practice all the skills acquired on the course in realistic situations and allow you to practice making effective, ethical decisions under the effects of stress and adrenaline in order to increase stress inoculation.
